HUDSON, Fla. – Amid international headlines that a star actress from the film series Harry Potter is suffering from spinal stenosis, and believes she will eventually die from the condition, a Florida spine surgeon says that immediate relief from the condition is available.
Miriam Margolyes, who starred as Professor Stout in the immensely popular Harry Potter film series, has made headlines over the past week regarding her health, saying that she has to continue working at age 83 because medical bills from treating her spinal stenosis are piling up.
She also fears that she will become paralyzed from the condition.
But neither of those things have to be true, says Dr. Alfred Bonati of the Bonati Spine Institute.
Dr. Bonati has completed almost 80,000 spine and neck procedures on people from across the globe, including procedures to cure spinal stenosis, in his nearly 40-year career. He uses a patented, minimally invasive surgical technique.
During his illustrious career, he has instantly relieved chronic back pain, and in many cases reversed paralysis in various parts of the body for those whose spine and neck conditions have caused that paralysis.
“I don’t know Ms. Margolyes, and admittedly I have not seen any of her work,” said Dr. Bonati. “But what I do know is that I see patients like Ms. Margolyes all the time. Elderly patients especially are told by medical professionals there is no hope for fixing their spinal stenosis, and that they are destined to live the rest of their lives in chronic pain. That’s just not true.”
Dr. Bonati treats spinal stenosis with a simple procedure that widens the spinal canal, relieving the pressure that the nerves are putting on the spinal cord. His procedure, which requires only conscious IV sedation that allows patients to communicate with him while undergoing surgery, usually takes less than an hour. Afterwards, Dr. Bonati’s patients, even those who have been chronically injured for years, typically walk out of the Bonati Spine Institute on their own within hours of the surgery.
“If this sounds too good to be true, it’s not,” said Dr. Bonati. “What we have is a massive failure in understanding and willingness to treat chronic back pain within the medical establishment. I have treated tens of thousands of patients like Ms. Margolyes with a very simple procedure. Elderly people simply do not have to suffer from chronic back pain, yet as a society we have accepted that they should. It’s plain wrong, and I hope Ms. Margolyes gets the dignified care and treatment she deserves.”
